Alocasia longiloba x sanderiana
With its eggplant underbelly and alien green veins, this one's a Plantboy favorite. Spoiler alert: it's not from the Amazon.
This plant ships in a nursery container. See it potted here.
The Amazonica isn't from the Amazon. In fact, it is a hybrid whose exact roots are unknown but are believed to be in Asia.
Authorities have long said that Salvadore Mauro, the nursery owner credited for this hybrid, simply named it after his business -- Amazon Nursery. Thanks, Salvadore. That's not confusing at all.
The Amazonica will shed older leaves occasionally. Not to worry, you're doing fine. Older growth is often discarded to divert energy for new growth. Misting this plant regularly will help it thrive.
Size will vary, but total height is about 14 inches and container width is 4 inches.
How to not kill me
Water once a week
If that's too hard then we suggest getting a pet rock. The Amazonica likes to be slightly damp, but not wet.
Bright and Indirect
Think bright, dappled light that streams through the classiest of sheer JC Penney curtains. The brighter the better, but direct sunlight will burn its leaves. Let's not do that.
Slays in high humidity
It comes from the tropics so mist it frequently with a spray bottle, or use a humidifier to amp up the moisture in your space. It'll thank you by looking good and staying alive.
