Calathea Rattlesnake

Calathea lancifolia

Beautiful patterned leaves, is pet friendly, and tolerates low light. Now that's a triple threat if you ask us.

This plant ships in a nursery container. See it potted here

Any Indirect Light

This plant will do fine in low light levels but grows best in medium or bright filtered light.

Pet Friendly

If Spike were to eat your plant, he'd be totally fine. Your heart? Not so much.

A Good Gift

Low care and adaptable to most indirect light situations. How can they resist?

Native to Brazil, the Rattlesnake thrives in environments that emulate high humidity and partial shade. It likes its soil to be a bit moist and does well in medium or low indirect light.

If you see its leaves rising and falling throughout the day, no need to worry, it’s just following its circadian rhythm. This plant is pet friendly!

Size will vary, but total height is about 12 inches and container width is 4 inches.

How to not kill me

Watering

Water once a week

If that's too hard then we suggest getting a pet rock. Calatheas like to be slightly damp, but not wet.

Sunlight

Low to Bright Indirect

This plant can adapt to most indoor light situations but should not be exposed to direct light.

Humidity

Slays in high humidity

It comes from the tropics so mist it frequently with a spray bottle, or use a humidifier to amp up the moisture in your space. It'll thank you by looking good and staying alive.

Protip

Don't freak out, the leaves move

The Rattlesnake exhibits nastic movement, which is just a fancy word that means the plant's leaves stand up in response to darkness (i.e. when it's time to sleep or get lit).
